The device's patent holder, Aura Systems Inc., believes it has the first practical machine to provide nearly infinitely variable valve timing, the elusive key to peak engine efficiency. Aura, founded in 1987 as an aerospace defense firm, announced Jan. 17 that Chrysler Corp. had contracted to test EVA. Aura, which has 300 employees, has made about 10 deals in recent months with high-profile engine makers Forged Steel Valves including the Fiat Group, Yamaha and Daewoo Heavy Industries of South Korea.
